William C. Becher, Jr., 78, of Fremont died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

He was born March 19, 1930, in Columbus. He moved with his family to Hastings in 1935, where he graduated from high school in 1947; in 1954 he graduated from Hastings College. He was named the 1952 State College Athlete of the Year. He was invited to the Brooklyn Dodgers training camp in 1948. He was an engineer for Western Electric for over 30 years. He married Bobette Wilber on Aug. 28, 1954, in Hastings; she preceded him in death on Aug. 31, 1993.
He was a member of Lancaster Masonic Lodge 54 of Lincoln and Tangier Shrine Center of Omaha.

Survivors include: a daughter, Cynthia (Mrs. Murphy) Kirby of Fremont; three sons, Robert (and wife, Lois) Becher of Chicago, Todd (and wife, Patti) Becher of Omaha and Jim (and wife, Nancy) Becher of Fremont; a daughter, Teresa (Mrs. Jeff) Petersen of Fremont; six grandchildren; and a brother, Richard (and wife, Dody) Becher of California.

The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, UCC in Fremont with the Rev. Shirley Schmidt officiating. There is no public visitation. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

She was the beloved wife of Richard E. Petty for 63 years; loving mother of daughter, Susan Long and husband, Stephen of Omaha, NE and son, Thomas L. Petty and wife Lynn of the S/V Roxanne, currently residing in New Zealand. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She attended the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She worked many years at Western Electric in Omaha and retired after 25 years of faithful service. She was a loving individual who put her family and friends first. We will truly miss her and her many talents. She loved quilting, needlework, gardening, fishing and entertaining. She was a member of the Rio Grande Valley Quilter’s Guild, the Weslaco Elks Auxiliary and the Red Hats.

SINKULE-Joseph Francis, 
91, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and friend, peacefully passed from this life on 5/15/08, in Vancouver, WA with his loving family at his side. Born 1/9/1917 in Weston, NE. Dad was a wonderful man of many talents. He was a gifted Polka musician who played in his father’s band, The Joseph Sinkule Orchestra, touring the country in the 1930’s. They had a local radio show in York, NE for several years. He continued his musical career, playing with The Dave Husky Orchestra, The Vincent Emmaual Concert Band, as well as the Vern Luddington Orchestra. In 1980 he was proudly inducted into the Nebraska Polka Hall of Frame. Dad retired from AT&T/Western Electric in Omaha in 1982 and enjoyed his retirement years visiting his family and traveling. In 2006 Joe and his wife Emily moved to Vancouver, WA to live by their son and daughter-in-law, but he remained an avid Cornhusker fun. Survived by his wife of 67 years, Emily (Proskocil) Sinkule, daughter Diane (Paul) Durham, of Ames, IA; sons Gene (Cheryl) Sinkule, of Vancouver, WA, and Joseph, (Nancy) Sinkule of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Steve (Shannon) Pree, of Robins, IA, Shanna (Brad) Scott of Jensen Beach, FL, Joey Sinkule, and Jessica Sinkule all of Scottsdale, AZ; great grandsons, Keegan, Baylor, and Ty Pree and Jaxon and Easton Scott. The funeral for Gladys Mueller, 68, of rural Fremont will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
She died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at her home.
She was born Nov. 28, 1939, in Staplehurst to Merle and Alma Nelsen Burkholder. In 1944, she came with her family to Fremont. She attended Fremont schools and graduated from Fremont High School in 1957. She married Eugene Mueller on March 1, 1958, and they made their home in Fremont. She had worked briefly for F.W. Woolworth store in downtown Fremont, then went to work for Western Electric which later became Lucent Technologies, retiring in 1997. Her husband preceded her in death in May 2002.
Gladys was a strong woman, always there for her family, even as she faced her health issues with courage. She enjoyed occasionally going to the casinos, and also playing bingo with her friends.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jayne (and husband, Corey) Wegner and Jeanette Legband, all of Fremont; three sons, Dan (and wife, Ivonne) Mueller of Columbus, Cory (and wife, Donna) Mueller of Morse Bluff and Mark (and wife, Corey) Mueller of Fremont; two brothers, Merle Burkholder of Augusta, Ga., and Duane (and wife, Kathy) Burkholder of Craig; two sisters, Bobbie (and husband, Jack) Sloan and Lila (and husband, Larry) Lee, all of Colorado Springs; a half sister, Betty (and husband, Dennis) Palmer of Springfield; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Chaplain Scott Jensen will officiate Friday’s service. Closed casket visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at the mortuary with family present from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.

 – 83, Lincoln, died Thursday (3/6/08) in Milford. Born Nov. 29, 1924, near Elmwood to George and Edna (Oehlerking) Swarts. Boyd graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. He married Mary Jo Harrison November 30, 1946, at St. Pat’s Catholic Church in Lincoln, and they had four sons. As a boy, Boyd sold magazines and candy bars to supplement his mother’s income after his father died, and had a paper route for the Lincoln Journal-Star. In high school, he worked for Smith Bakery, Lincoln, then after his marriage, he was employed with Western Electric, Omaha, for 30 years in Q.A. until his retirement. Outside of work, his activities included driving ponies, traveling, and repairing anything that needed fixed.
Visitation: No visitation; cremation.
Service: Celebration of Life Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Prairie Home United Methodist Church, Prairie Home, Nebraska.
Family Gathering: Family will greet friends immediately prior to services on Saturday at the church.

 76, of Lincoln, formerly of Wahoo, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at her home in Lincoln. She was born Nov. 4, 1931, in Woonsocket, S.D., to Magnus and Nellie Helgeland. When she was young, the family moved to Mitchell, S.D. She went to elementary school there and graduated from Mitchell High School. In 1949, she married Bernard Macholan in Mitchell. They moved to Lincoln, and later in 1957, to Wahoo. She worked at Western Electric in Millard for 25 years. She was active at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Lydia League. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502 and American Legion Post 82 auxiliaries.
Survivors include: her husband, Joe Voboril of Wahoo; a son, Terry (and wife, Judy) Macholan of Lincoln; two grandsons and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Macholan; two brothers and a sister.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wahoo. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo.

She continued her education while working, obtaining her bachelor’s degree. After retiring she began her second career in real estate, which she continued even during her health problems.

She was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Leigh to Harry and Elsie (Landerfield) Philson. She grew up in Leigh and graduated from Leigh High School. She lived in Central City from 1935-44. She then moved to Fremont. She worked for the former Western Electric, now Connectivity Solutions, in Omaha, retiring in 1977.

She married Lester Fishler in 1935 in Omaha. He died in September 1964.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and its Altar Society, both of Fremont. She was a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She had done both watercolors and oil painting since she was 15 years old. She recently had an art show at the Pathfinder House in Fremont, showing her many paintings in December 2007.

Survivors include: two sons, John E. (and wife, Hilda) Fishler and Marvin L. (and wife, Vicki) Fishler, all of Central City; a daughter, Helen Hoesing of Bennington; daughter-in-law, Adele Fishler of Brighten, Colo.; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by a son, a brother, a sister and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 3400 E. 16th St., in Fremont with the Rev. Ronald Battiato officiating. Visitation will be from

2-8 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary at 7 p.m. which is open to the public, all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Leigh with the Rev. Tim Forget officiating.
A memorial has been established to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
