Died on December 14, 2012 after a short battle with cancer, in Sun City, AZ. He was born on January 13, 1939, the son of William W. and Mary Wetenkamp of Plattsmouth, NE. He grew up in Plattsmouth and graduated from Plattsmouth High School in 1958. He married Mary Ann Wohlfarth on August 18, 1963. They moved to Arizona in 1973, and have since made it their home. Bill started working for Western Electric in Omaha in 1966 and retired in 1994 from the Phoenix plant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Ruckman. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; 3 daughters, Diane (Dan), Jeannie, and Vicki (Dennis); 7 grandchildren, Cassandra, Kyle, Alex, Jordyn, Allyson, Corey, and Marc; and 1 great grandson, Noah. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene (Louis), Vista, CA; and his brother-in-law, Victor Ruckman, Council Bluffs, IA; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He graduated from Treynor High School with the class of 1958. Ron had worked for 42 years at Lucent Technologies in Omaha retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Pottawattamie County Special Deputies from 1981-2002. He was also a dedicated Mason holding positions in Amber and Excelsior Lodges as well as the Order of Eastern Star – Amber Star at Quick, Council Bluffs Chapter, and White Shrine of Jerusalem. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Brockman. Ron is survived by his wife LaVon Brockman to whom he married March 4, 1961; daughters and sons-in-law, Jo and Allen Alsman and Loretta and Brad Coffman; son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Diane Brockman; brothers, Gordon Brockman, Richard Brockman, Gerald Brockman (Bobbie), Gail Brockman (Carolyn); sisters, Mary Wayman (Donald), Marjorie Hatcher (Bill); mother-in-law, Regina Lubbe; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.

Omaha. Passed away peacefully in her sleep on her 78th birthday at her home. Mrs. Hammonds was born and raised in Purcell, OK and was the daughter of Coyle Permetter and Henrietta Cook. After getting married to her first husband, Enish Gills, Jr. in 1953, the couple relocated to Omaha and she made that her home until the time of her passing. Mrs. Hammonds retired from Lucent Technologies after many years of outstanding service and was a cherished member of Rising Star Baptist Church and the Shaeffer Chapter #1, Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her loving husband, Mr. James Odell Hammonds; seven sisters and three brothers, along with their spouses. This wonderful woman leaves to mourn her sons, Jerry (Sharon) Gills, Rickie Gills, Curtis (Cardella) Gills, Alvin (Regina) Gills, Marvin (Sharon) Gills, David Gills, Clifford (Tauncey) Gills; daughter, Beverly (Eddie) Harris; step-daughter, Janette (Allen) Ninneman, Indianapolis, IN; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends who will all feel the emptiness her passing has caused. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army and was a member of the VFW in Omaha. He was the co-creator of the Rainbow Girls Softball League in Omaha, and was an avid hunter, even taking to time to conduct Hunters’ Safety Educational programs for young hunters. He worked for several years in Quality Control for Lucent Technologies. He was married to Nell Lowry on September 3, 1965 in Colorado. Donald is survived by his wife Nell Trimble, Aubrey; daughter Paulla Jakobi, Tallahassee, FL; son Donald L. Navy Captain, WW 2 war veteran and hero. He flew blimp rescue missions and hunted German submarines during the war. Senior executive at Western Electric after the war for 30 years. Proudest accomplishment and lasting legacy are his 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; God, Country and Family.

William A. “Pete” Peterson 79, of Beatrice, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Bryan/LGH Medical Center East.  He was born October 12, 1932 at Council Bluffs, Iowa.  He worked as a heavy machine mechanic in Alabama before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1949.  He married Donna (Fohrman) on December 19, 1957 at Council Bluffs, IA.  He then worked at Western Electric Company in Millard, NE until retiring in 1985.  He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. 
He loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. 
Survivors include his daughter, Terri Amaral and husband Ron of Elk Horn, IA; sons, Michael Peterson and wife Kathy of Council Bluffs, IA, Daniel Peterson and wife Pam of Beatrice; grandchildren, Samantha Amaral of Minneapolis, MN, Alex Amaral of Elkhorn, NE and Jake Peterson of Council Bluffs, IA; sister, Sandi Schultz and husband Ron of Albuquerque, NM 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (1/6/2010); mother and step-father, Lillian (Cade) & Laverene Stoops;  father, Harvey Petersen.

Carla D. Yonkie, 76, of Bayard died Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at her home with her family by her side.
Carla was born Jan. 11, 1936, in Norton, Kan., to Carl and Marian (Meador) Caldwell. She was raised in Kansas and graduated from the Sublette, Kansas High School. She married Darrel R. Yonkie on Nov. 8, 1953, in Fremont. They lived in Rupert, Idaho, and Hungry Horse, Mont., for a time before returning to Fremont, where they lived for a number of years while both were employed at AT&T in Omaha. The couple moved to Dix in 1993 and lived there until 2003, when they moved to Bayard where Carla lived until her death. She and Darrel had been married for more than 50 years before his death in 2004.
Carla was a member of the church and enjoyed reading, Nebraska football, NASCAR racing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving Carla is her daughter, Cheryl (Jerold) Mascher of Bayard; and her sons, Darrel Russell (Annette) Yonkie of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Wayne (Rene’) Yonkie of Kirbyville, Mo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dale Duff, Darrel Robert Yonkie, Jacob Yonkie, Brooke Yonkie, Scott Mascher, Joseph Mascher, Shaun Yonkie, Jessie Yonkie, Scott Yonkie and Christina Mascher, along with 23 great-grandchildren and a brother, Dwayne Caldwell of Canon City, Colo.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the A.C.T.S. United Pentecostal Church in Scottsbluff with the Rev. Duane Wallace officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff and one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Merle was born on July 8, 1923 in Gandy, Nebraska to Adam and Ella (Philpot) Cook. He grew up in the Gandy area, the youngest of 6 children.
He served his country during WW II in the United States Air Force. Merle was currently a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854 of Fremont.
On December 20, 1946, Merle was married to LaDonna Schaupp. They lived for a brief time in Iowa, then moved to Fremont. Merle was employed by Western Electric until he retired, then for 4 years he operated Cooky’s Lounge on west Military Ave. The couple lived in Loveland, Colorado from 1991 to 1995, when they returned to Fremont. In his earlier years, he coached little league baseball in Fremont.
Merle was preceded in death by his wife LaDonna in July of 1998, and by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors: daughter – Denise and husband Jim Hughes of Fremont,son – Michael and wife Mary Cook of Franklin, Wisconsin, 4 grandchildren – Josh Cook,Jamie and husband Ben Adler, Joe Cook, Robb Steinpreis

She was born November 15, 1928, in Denison, Iowa, to Bernard and Antonia (Ransom) Simons and graduated from
Thomas Jefferson High School in 1946. She attended business college and worked for AT&T for over 30 years
retiring in 1989, as a Mold Press Operator.  Berny is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Pharris and Lewis Simons; sister, Mary Alice Hendrix; and best friend, Betty Kunce.  Survivors include sister, Sandy Sweeney, of Council Bluffs; brothers, Thomas Simons (Dorothy), of Omaha, Neb., Enice Simons (Dorothy), of Council Bluffs; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; friends, Shirley Demont and Bonnie Anderson.

Born to the late William and Helen Shimkus on April 18, 1928, in Omaha, NE, Rita died peacefully in her sleep, after
an extended battle with COPD. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Joseph; daughter, Linda Cuyler; and son, Robert; all of Omaha. Rita’s career began in house-wares at the Brandeis department store in downtown Omaha. She later went to work as a switchboard operator at Refinite. And after a stint as a salad lady at Anthony’s Steakhouse, she joined Western Electric in 1970, where she worked until her retirement from Lucent Technologies in 1993. Rita will long be remembered for her love of all things Christmas. She designed elaborate ornaments for the holiday she cherished, baked enough cookies to last until the 4th of July, and left her tree up from Thanksgiving till Ground-hog Day. She also loved to cook and read. And among her greatest treasures, she valued the many pets who brought joy into her home and light into her life. Rita has requested NO VISITATION OR SERVICES.

real estate agent for an additional 18 years. He loved country music and was lead guitarist and
vocals for the band, “Off the Wall.”

Dean was born on March 27, 1926 to the union of John and Dagma (Thompson) Olson of Missouri
Valley, Ia. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen Olsen of Persia, la, sister
Loretta Christensen of Council Bluffs, la., life partner of 25 years Evelyn Suverkrubbe, grandson John Bighia, and granddaughter Jennifer (Bowling) Renolds. Dean Olsen is survived by his nine children, sons, Gary D. Olsen and
wife Janet; Michael E. Olsen and wife Susan; John E. Olsen and wife Cathy; daughters Rita Fidler and husband Russell; Bonnie Francis and husband Martin; Sandra Luna and husband Vince; all of Council Bluffs la, Linda Olsen of Derby, Kansas; Connie Treat and husband Bud of Meeker. Oklahoma and Debra Thacker of Destin, Florida; brothers Eugene Olsen and wife Betty of Council Bluffs. la; Kenneth Olsen and wife Marilyn of Tulsa, Ok.; sisters Ester Nelson of Neola, la; Bernice Hooge and husband Lowell of Council Bluffs, la; 27 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Dean was inducted into the United States Army on January 24, 1945 at Ft Levenworth Kansas and after a tour of duty in the Phillippines returned to the States and was discharged on 11/25/46 at Camp Beale California. Dean farmed in the Missouri Valley and Bee Bee town area until 1954 when he took a jab at Armour and Company and eventually moving his family to Omaha, Ne. Dean worked as an inspector for Armour until they closed their doors in 1968. Dean secured a job with Western Electric prior to Armour shutting down and worked both jobs full time for six months. He retired April 28, 1989 after 21 years of service. Dean was not one to sit idle so the following spring he took a part time job at Bag and Save Grocery Stores as a sack boy, and after a short time he was promoted to cold beer and dairy manager and continued working there full time for another six years.
VISITATION with the family is Wednesday 6-8PM at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home & Crematory.
MEMORIAL SERVICE is Thursday 11AM at the funeral home. A reception will follow the service in
the Hoy-Kilnoski Community Room. Inurnment will take place after the reception in the Grange
Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.

Delbert C. O’Neal was born October 26, 1946 in Plattsmouth, NE to Clyde E. and Carrie Helen
(Kerns) O’Neal. He passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Midlands Hospital, Papillion,
NE at the age of 65. Delbert grew up and attended school in Yutan, graduating from Yutan High
School in 1965. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He later retired from the US
Army Reserves after 20 years of service.
