He spent the next few years remodeling and old farmhouse, building a garage and began restoring old tractors and old cars. Walt was like a sponge, soaking in all news, carpentry, mechanics, old cars, old tractors, machinery, farming you name it.
One of his favorite things to do was taking two lane road trips all over the United States. He always said if you want to learn about an area stay off the interstate. He and Marilyn took several two lane trips, going through small towns where he not only learned the history of the area but also a few of it’s residents. Look for the pickups Marilyn, that’s where we’re having our next meal.
In 1992 he became a grandpa for the first time and every few years thereafter it happened again until he had 9 grandchildren. They were indeed the highlight of his life and he took great delight in taking them for walks, rides on the 4-wheeler and tractor and leading them into mischief. When the doctors spoke to him about a heart transplant, he and Marilyn discussed it and he said if I don’t do it I will die. If I do it I have a 50/50 chance of more time with my grandchildren. Before his transplant surgery his oldest granddaughter came to him and told him she was carrying his first great grandchild. When he woke up Marilyn asked if he remember what Courtney said and he said I sure do and a huge smile crossed his face. His grandchildren were definitely the loves of his life.
Walter is survived by wife Marilyn Kassube; two daughters, Tracey, (Todd) Ashlock, Julie Zimmer (David Cavanaugh); son ,Alan (Dawn) Kassube; nine grandchildren, Brittany Kassube, William Hoffman, Courtney (Daniel) Zemunski; Breann, Morgan & Emily Zimmer; Kaitlynn, Madsion & Lauren Ashlock; and expecting first great grandchild; two sisters, Janice Larson and MaryAnn (Richard) Lorensen; two brothers, Tom ( Kay) Kassube and Bruce ( Esther) Ames, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation: Monday May 18th 1 – 8 P.M. Services: Tuesday May 19th at 10:30 A.M. Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Papillion.

Robert L. Donahoo
Donahoo, Robert L.
Donahoo, Robert L. Age 90 Robert or “Big Bob” as his stepson would refer to him, passed peacefully at hospice on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from cardiac complications. Bob was a Nebraska boy through and through. Growing up and educated in Lincoln established the work and ethical foundation for a successful career with Western Electric and its subsidiaries. And yes, Bob was a Husker Fan….sometimes… Bob had numerous strengths and one of them was being humble. However, the one thing he would brag about was catching his wife, Fredine. To describe her as the love of his life would be an understatement. They were best, best friends. Routinely winning at Shanghai rummy, overpowering crossword puzzles, riding his bike at Zorinski Park, attempting the guitar – finally leaving it to his favorite musician, Chet Atkins, breakfast with his friends every Thursday, travel, family and church activities seemed to fill his retirement.
Bob left instructions to donate his body to the NE Anatomical Board for research purposes.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Fredine; beloved family: stepdaughter Cheryl Schemanski (Mike); stepson Hal Herron; sister Connie Caselton; nephew Mark Caselton (Cindy); granddaughter Kayci Herron and grandsons, Tony and Nicolas Labrioli and many great-grandchildren.
