Thomas E. Bowman
Bowman, Thomas E.
Thomas E. Bowman, born in Salina, Kansas on June 10th, 1934, passed away peacefully, at his home in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by his wife of many years and close friends.
Tom is survived by Una N. Bowman, his loving wife of 61 years, brother-in-law Gerald Talberg, sister-in-law Jeanne Bowman, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Leon Lewis and
Lenna Elizabeth Bowman, sisters; Betty Bowman, Barbara Blair, Phyllis Talberg and brother, Bill
Bowman.
The real story … it is hard to find a picture of just Tom. His file of pictures over a lifetime, usually included the love of his life, Una! Of course, pets of several varieties were included. A man of pure Gold, with many passions … playing music on his harmonica, singing with the accompaniment of his Ukulele.
His early years were much like that of a farm boy, and being a little rascal upon occasion. Even though his Father hated cats, Tom always managed to have one following him around and sneaking him in the house during the winter months. Blessed with a great sense of humor and desire for success, he survived those early years.
After high school, he attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1957, and married his sweetheart on June 5th, 1955. Tom started an illustrious career with Western Electric, finally retiring from AT&T in February of 1987. Somewhere along the line, he had enough time to join the U.S. Army and Reserves, with an Honorable Discharge in January of 1966.
He went on to build homes as the founder and President of Good Life Homes, Inc., a Nebraska homebuilding corporation and developed an 81 acre recreational subdivision on the Missouri River. He enjoyed many days in the family boat, exploring the Missouri. His contributions were recognized by the Governor of Nebraska who appointed Tom as Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.
Tom was a supporter and volunteer for many good causes, evidenced by his lengthy list of accomplishments.
It then became of he and Una to travel the United States by a motor home. Several years on the road, and a Prevost which he loved, brought them to Pacific Shores RV Resort. Tom, a staunch supporter of Pacific Shores Motor Coach Resort were long time owners of Lot 14, where many were welcome to come and sit a spell. Tom and Una were instrumental in welcoming new owners and sharing how the park worked. He always offered a pleasant salutation when owners or renters walked past Lot 14. He was an exemplary citizen and representative of the Pacific Shores community.
Tom was instrumental in the making sure the Outdoor Resorts of Oregon bankruptcy filings were all
correct. His efforts discovered several assets, including Tract G, the golf course (Tract D), The
Stratford/Beach Front Property, and the Welcome Center (Tract C) had not been deeded to the HOA.
His tenacious efforts resulted in the final transference of those properties to Pacific Shores RV Resort.
Yes, he was a fighter … but with class. He had health issues a couple years ago, and fought through a
lengthy hospitalization and rehabilitation. Family and friends supported his recuperative efforts.
Some of the effects of that battle carried forward into his last battle with age related health issues.
At Pacific Shores RV Resort things didn’t change much … Tom discovered a stray cat, named him Rusty
because of his color. Rusty will miss Tom for sure, even though others take care of Rusty, there just isn’t
anyone quite like Tom. Tom Bowman is a part of our history and will be sorely missed.
Donations sent in memory of Tom may be sent to The Humane Society of the United States. The link for
