Gerry Dean Callahan, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 3rd, 2023 at the Methodist Fremont Health in Fremont, NE. Gerry was born in Taber, IA to Lonny and Arta Callahan (Ostrand). His middle name, Dean, was a tribute to baseball legend Jay Hanna “Dizzy” Dean. Gerry grew up alongside his older brother, Harvey Callahan, and his younger sister, Charlotte Callahan. The family moved to Cedar Bluffs, NE when Gerry was very young, where he lived with his parents and worked on their farm until he married his loving wife of 65 years, Janet Callahan (Laudenslager) on May 11th, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Gerry served in the Air Guard at Fort Leonard Wood, MO throughout the 1950s. For 42 years, he proudly worked as an industrial electrician at Western Electric (Lucent Technology), retiring in 2000.
Even after retirement, he often met with his coworker buddies for coffee on Thursday mornings, which he always looked forward to. Gerry was a member of IBEW and the First United Methodist Church, where he served as a devoted member of the “Prayer and Repair” team. He often told his wife, Janet, that this was his way of “earning his ticket into Heaven.” He loved throwing horseshoes, shooting pool, trimming trees, playing crossword puzzles, and learning all he could about all sorts of things. He valued education and was always passing on his knowledge of the world to his children and grandchildren, or anyone who would listen. And, he was a helper. He lent a helping hand wherever he could, even sometimes when he shouldn’t have (ie. trimming trees, and working on ladders). But above all else, Gerry was first and foremost a family man. He loved and endlessly supported his three children, Wade, Wendy, and Julie in everything they did. And, Gerry told everyone who would listen about how proud he was of each and every one of his eight grandchildren and their athletic/musical abilities and work ethic. He enjoyed attending all of their events and activities. And, he appreciated a good pen– one that felt “good in the hand”.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Wendy (Kevin) Eairleywine; son Wade (Lori) Callahan all of Fremont; daughter, Julie (Brad) Collins of Liberty, Missouri; sister Charlotte Callahan of Gold Canyon, Arizona; sister-in-law Marianne Callahan of Cedar Bluffs, NE; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harvey Callahan; and sister-in-law Dorothy Houser.
Funeral will be at 1 PM Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at First United Methodist Church in Fremont. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.

Donald S. Gould Sr., 92 of Carthage, Missouri passed away January 3, 2023 at Oak Pointe of Carthage. Donald was born April 1, 1930 in Washington, Kansas to Orval William and Gertrude Hazel (Palmer) Gould. He was a retired wireman for AT&T. Donald was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church of Carthage.
Donald was united in marriage to Pearl Kaiser on September 4, 1949. She survives. Other survivors include, three sons, Steven Gould, Donald Gould Jr., and Todd Gould , eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leonard, sister Ruby, daughter in law, Yolanda Gould and a granddaughter.
Funeral services for Donald will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, Carthage, MO. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10:00 till 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Jasper, MO.

Marvin H. Rohwer, age 83 of Fort Calhoun, passed away December 20, 2022, at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in Fremont, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, December 29, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28, with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Campbell Aman Funeral Home in Blair.
Marv was born in Washington County, Nebraska on December 22, 1938, son of Harry “Jack” Rohwer and Viola Puls Rohwer. He attended Wranch School through grade nine and graduated from Blair High School in 1956. He earned a BSME from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in 1961.
From 1961 until 1966 he worked as an engineer at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, General Dynamics Astronautics in San Diego, and McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis. In 1966 he returned to Nebraska and bought his Aunt Kate’s farm in Washington County. Along with farming, he worked as a senior design engineer for AT&T and Lucent Technologies until his retirement in 1994. He continued farming and raising shorthorn cattle and exotic animals until retiring from that in 2005.
He served ten years on the Washington County Planning Commission and one term on the Washington County Board of Supervisors from 2005-2009.
Marv was a gifted sculptor in clay and bronze. In 2001 his barn swallow ornament was hung on the White House Christmas Tree. He and Judy along with other Nebraska artists attended a luncheon at the White House hosted by Laura Bush. Other interests included woodworking, gardening, antique collection, exotic animals, and working to restore his 1965 Mustang and his dad’s Massey Ferguson 35 tractor. He enjoyed his cattle, family get togethers, participating in Washington County Cattlemen, the Blair Optimists Club, and volunteering at the Washington County Museum. Together with his wife, Judy, Marv was instrumental in launching the Tractors Tall and Small yearly event at the museum that evolved into Heritage Days in Fort Calhoun.
Marv is survived by his wife, Judy; son Alan Rohwer of New York, NY, daughter Angelia Rohwer Steiner (Jason) of Oneida, KS;, sons: Tom Schuller of Ft. Worth, TX, Rob (Nancy) Schuller of Powell, WY, Doug (Jean) Schuller of Saginaw, MI, and Eric Schuller of Ft. Ramute Regina Mitchell passed away peacefully on December 10, 2022. Ramute was born on November 9, 1936 in Marijampole, Lithuania. She immigrated to the United States in 1949 and settled in Omaha, Nebraska with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juozas and Jadwyga Sakalas and her beloved son Anthony Charles Mitchell.
Ramute Mitchell is survived by her husband of 55 years, Fred Mitchell. Together they raised three sons, and she is survived by her two sons, Joseph Mitchell (Elvira), and Michael Mitchell (Diane). Ramute is survived by Nine Grandchildren: Jennifer Wehrmeyer, Freddy J. Mitchell, Ted Mitchell, Fred M. Mitchell, Alexander Mitchell, Marlo Mitchell, Natalie Mitchell, Madison Mitchell, Cole Mitchell and Six Great Grandchildren.
Ramute attended Omaha South High School and graduated in 1954. She worked at Western Electric from 1964 to 1989. While working at Western Electric she met her husband, Fred. Ramute and her sister Ausrele Sakalas from Lemont, Illinois was very active in the Lithuanian Community. Ramute was active in the St. Anthony’s Catholic church in South Omaha which served a large majority of Lithuanian immigrants before closing in 2014. Ramute enjoyed singing in the church choir and was an avid reader. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. Ramute and Fred moved to Harker Heights, Texas in May, 2022 to be near family. She will remain in our hearts forever.

John “Jerry” Lynch was born on August 27, 1939 and was a life-long resident of Omaha. He graduated from Central High School and later graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a degree in Industrial Engineering and from Creighton University with an MBA. He worked for 40 years for Western Electric, which later became AT&T Technologies and then Lucent Technologies.
Jerry met his wife Nonie when they were both working at Western Electric. They had two daughters, Kyra and Kristen. Jerry loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian. He enjoyed carpentry, coin collecting and classic cars, but above all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Jerry was known as a very kind, humble man who touched many people’s lives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Nonie and brother Gene Jordan. He is survived by his daughters Kyra (Jim) Ewer and Kristen Lynch (Jeff Scavio) as well as his granddaughters Nicole, Jillian and Victoria Ewer, Monica Lynch (Amos Lackore) and great-granddaughters Audrey and Mazie Lackore.

Amy (Helfrich) Weir was born on September 2, 1965 in North Platte, Nebraska to Jim and Doris (Dvorak) Helfrich. She attended North Platte Public Schools and Mid Plains Community College. After a brief time in Colorado, Amy moved to Omaha, NE in the 1980s and has lived here ever since. Later Amy attended Bellevue University as a working, single mom and completed a degree in business.
Amy had many business ventures over the years. In the 1990s she started two shops: Gifts from the Heart and Stamps from the Heart. In 2011, The Potting Shed Garden and Gift Center was opened where Amy shared her love of flowers and gardening with anyone who came in. In 2016, Amy and beloved friend and business partner Tammy Wright opened Therapy Bar and Grill and later Nomads Bar and Grill. She loved creating a venue and promoting live music in Omaha. No matter the business, Amy made her customers a priority. Everybody knew her and she knew everybody. A testament to the caring, thoughtful, and genuine person she was and continues to be in our memories.
Amy loved flowers, Diet Coke, gardening, laughing with friends, Reese’s peanut butter M&Ms, NOT having her picture taken, live music, vacationing in Arizona, and spending time with family.
Amy is survived by her son Zach Weir; parents Jim Helfrich and Doris (Dvorak) Helfrich; brother Rick (Mindy) Helfrich; dear friends Candace (Charles) Heil and Tammy Wright; beloved dogs Sadie and Daisy; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; countless cousins; and an abundance of friends.

Shirley was born December 20, 1936 in Herman, NE the daughter of Emil and Elsie Knudsen. Shirley graduated from Tekamah-Herman High School in 1954. Shirley was a longtime employee and retired from Western Electric. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo and cards with family and friends, and dancing back in the day.
Over the years, Shirley enjoyed spending her winters in Texas with her husband Bill and their many friends. A very important time in Shirley’s life was when she put her trust and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Shirley is survived by her children: daughter Pam (Dale) Stickney, son James (Kimberly) Murphy; grandchildren: Dustin and Jacob Murphy; great grandchildren: Jaelynn, Keaton, Evelynn, Braydon and Laynee Murphy; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Everett Murphy and William Dixon, grandson Zachariah Murphy, two sisters and five brothers.

Born in Chicago, IL in 1944, she moved with her fam ily to Omaha during her High School years and graduated from Omaha Westside. She was pre ceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Lillian Tvrdik; sister, Pa tricia Zerbs; brother-in-law, Ste phen Zerbs;and daughter-in- law Kathleen Gruidel. Hollis passed away on October 19, 2022 in Papillion, NE at the age of 90. He was born June 2, 1932 in Burke, New York to Uhel James and Etta (Brown) Cook. He joined the U. S. Air Force January 1951 being stationed in Wyoming and Austria during the Korean War, arriving at Lincoln Air Force Base until his discharge Dec 1954.
Hollis made Lincoln his home, where he met Jacqueline “Jackie” Dill. The couple married June 21, 1957, making Lincoln their home. Hollis and Jackie moved to Papillion in 1958 while he he worked for Western Electric until 1991. During his life in Papillion he joined the Volunteer Fire Department in 1962 until he stepped back in 1997. Hollis and Jackie were Charter Members of Faith Presbyterian Church.
Hollis enjoyed working on cars with his son and grandson. He loved to travel back to Burke, New York to see family and friends and fleeing to Florida for the winter.
Hollis is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jackie, his Children: Alan (Betty) Cook and Dianne (Scott) Bond. Grandchildren: Edward (Gabby) Tuite, Katherine (Jason) Hardin, Ashley Fitton, Christopher Brooks, Ryan Cook, Brayden Bond, Caden “CJ” Bond. Darrel Sudduth and Dick Scott notified us of the passing of Margery Anne Warren (Bull). Margery retired from the Omaha Works under AT&T in 1986 with 20 plus years of service. Margery worked as a secretary in labor relations and purchasing. Margery was a tireless volunteer for the Pioneers serving a number of committees and chair of the calling committee. Dick remember a story about her. One day after work after a snow she was parked next to me and I cleaned her windows off. The next morning I asked her if she had a lot of snow on her car. Margery Anne Bull was born on February 16, 1922 in Omaha, Nebraska to Christian and Elizabeth (Rosacker) Bull. She grew up on a farm south of Elkhorn, with her brother, Ervin, and sister, Marian. Margery attended country school through eighth grade and graduated as the Valedictorian of Elkhorn High School’s Class of 1939. She was awarded a University of Nebraska Regents’ Scholarship, and took a year of business classes before moving to Omaha, where she lived and worked until her marriage.
A life-long Lutheran, she was baptized, confirmed, and married in the church of her youth and was active in her several home congregations during her long life. For many years, she taught Jr. High Sunday School, led several adult studies, and was the first woman ever elected to the Resurrection Lutheran church council.
On April 2, 1944, Margery married John Harold Warren. Children, Mary Jo, John, and David, completed the family. Harold and Margery farmed in Douglas and Dodge Counties before moving to Yutan in 1951, where they farmed until Harold’s death. These were busy family years, with involvement in school, community, and church affairs. In 1963, Margery took a part-time job as “Society Editor” of the Wahoo Newspaper. Her varied writing and editing assignments challenged and interested her. It was a perfect fit for her natural talents and an enrichment to her life as a homemaker.
On June 3, 1965, Harold died of a sudden heart-attack. While grieving the loss of her husband, and remaining the anchor for her children, Margery navigated significant life changes. She remembered and was grateful for the help of family, friends, and the community during this transition. In the six months following Harold’s death, she found full-time work, gave attention to finishing farm business, and settled her family in a new town. She followed her sons’ school activities, and encouraged Mary Jo to continue her studies at the University of Nebraska. Her children knew her as strong and capable and were aware of her expectations for them. Her expressive dark eyes spoke in ways mere words could not.
In her 60’s Margery purchased a condominium in the Millard area, and became a first-?me homeowner. She enjoyed the lovely tree-shaded courtyard and the swimming pool to entertain much-loved grandchildren. In retirement, acer a satisfying 22-year career at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent/Avaya, she enjoyed traveling and spending more time with family and friends.
When she was nearly 90, her children encouraged her to move to Silver Ridge Assisted Living in Gretna. With her usual sensible outlook, she said, “Well, I guess we have to face facts. I am almost 90”. Her only expressed regret was giving up her car.
In 1986, she was interviewed for a profile in the church bulletin. When asked what her faith meant to her, Margery said: “At each stage of my life, the Lord has been waiting for me to accept his gifts of inspiration and comfort, and when I needed strength, his “everlasting arms” have supported me. I hope to grow in grace with my Lord and Savior”. She didn’t spend a lot of time “fretting”, or projecting into the future, or regretting the past. She lived her life day by day, meeting the challenges as they came and accepting the realities that couldn’t be changed. She has been a fine example for loved ones.
Margery passed away on August 15, 2022 at Silverridge Assisted Living in Gretna, NE. at the age of 100 years, 5 month & 30 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, most of her cousins, and many friends. Her survivors include her daughter, Mary Jo (Paul) Swanson, her sons, John (Susan) Warren, and David (Maureen) Warren, Grandchildren: Andrew Swanson, Suzanne Swanson, Joe (Nicole) Warren, Keeley Warren, John Warren, Cleone Warren, Christian Warren, and Darren Warren. Great-Granddaughters, Mallory and Madelynn Warren. A brother-in-law Winfred Stamp, and a sister-in-law, Marianne Bull, also survive, as well as nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 5:00 – 7:00pm Friday, August 19, at Roeder Mortuary, 11710 Standing Stone, Gretna, Nebraska.

Marvin Cloyd Seitz, Jr., 78 of Omaha, Nebraska was born January 29, 1944 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Marvin Cloyd and Doris Louise (Enselman) Seitz. He passed away August 9, 2022 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Marvin graduated from Glenwood High School in 1962 and earned his Bachelor’s degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha. He faithfully served his country in the Navy. He was united in marriage to Sonja Suzanne Stribling O’Leary on September 6, 1968 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Papillion, Nebraska. They were blessed with three daughters. Marvin was employed in many positions, retiring as a supervisor for Avaya Inc. formerly Western Electric.
Marvin enjoyed model building, Husker football, being outdoors, his dogs and recently his treasured dog Regan. His faith and family were most important to him. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding Marvin in passing were his parents, Marvin C. and Doris (Enselman) Seitz. Survivors include his wife Sonja (Sunny) Seitz, daughters, Carol (Brad) Kohler, Michelle (Kelly) Christensen and Shannon (Rick) Avard. On July 2, 1972, he married Carol Sue Lanphier in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Angela, Laura, and Daniel; and fifteen grandchildren.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jean (Capley) Clanton on June 22, 2022 in Omaha, Nebraska. Betty was born on April 12, 1938, in Richmond Community, Tennessee where she spent her early years raised on a farm. She moved with her family to Shelbyville, Tennessee, and attended Central High School where she met her future husband Marvin Glyn Clanton.
Betty and Marvin were married in 1955 and she moved to California where Marvin was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. She and Marvin lived in several states during his military career and settled in Omaha, Nebraska after his retirement from the Air Force. They were married for 36 years before Marvin’s untimely passing in 1992. Betty met Don Elletson in 1999. With Don, Betty traveled extensively. They spent several winters ‘snow birding’ in Arizona and they spent their senior years together, until Don’s passing in 2019.
In Omaha, Betty started her career with AT&T and after 26 years she retired in 1996. Betty was very active in her church, Aldersgate United Methodist Church and in her community doing volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital, AT&T Pioneers Hug-A-Bears, Bloodmobile and served as an adult leader for the International Order of Job’s Daughters at both the local and Nebraska state levels. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of VFW Post 8334 and Post 374 of the American Legion in Omaha.
Betty is survived by daughters Denise (Harold) Eucker and Dawn Keith; grandchildren Sarah (Dennis) Lynch, Susie Adamson, Sandy Adamson, Brandon (Jennifer) Keith and Aaron Keith; great grandchildren Ava and Tyson Lynch, Sam and Danny Keith and Gianna Gonzalez, and sisters-in-law Linda Capley and Faye Clanton. Nellie passed away at home in Omaha after a long bout with cancer. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, daughter, Helen Lubash, son Charlie and Grandson Bobby Rodrigues. She is survived by her son Tony (Trish) and daughter, Eva (Steve) Vachal. A child of Mexican born parents of Thomas Esparza and Evarista Deanda.
Nellie was born in Arkansas City, KS along with 10 other siblings. She had a great childhood with great stories of playing with her siblings, climbing trees, running through fields and exploring her world. Fast forward and she married Robert Rodrigues and had 4 children. She had worked for Western Electric for over 25 years, retiring early to live her life of gardening, traveling and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lived her life just as she wanted, doing the things she loved. Her life was full, she was blessed.
VISITATION: Friday, June 10, 2022 from 5-7:00pm at Braman Mortuary (Southwest Chapel)
FUNERAL MASS: Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church (7600 S. 42 St.)

Age 83. Passed away unexpectedly of pneumonia at Lakeside Hospital on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Sally was a long-time employee of Western Electric. Sally loved traveling, being active in Christ the King Church Circle, the Red Hats, card clubs, Town Hall, collecting her Kohl shopping coupons, and last but not least, visiting the casino. Sally had a special place in her heart for Brother Jerome O.S.B. and all things Mount Michael.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Stancavage, and special friend, Dale DeBoer. She is survived by Dale DeBoer’s daughter and family, Malanie (DeBoer) Lunn, and Terry, Austin, and Morgan Lunn.

Dean E. Mason, age 85, of Council Bluffs, passed away May 31, 2022 at UNMC in Omaha.
He was born to Chester and LuLu Mason in Crete, NE on November 7, 1936, but grew up in Wilbur, Nebraska. Dean married Rose (Lemmer) in April 1964. He worked for Western Electric for 25+ years and his passion was farming.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Mason.
Survivors include wife Rose, Council Bluffs; sons, Larry (Staci) Mason, Bellevue, NE, Greg Oliva (Charlene), Omaha, Melvin Oliva, Omaha; daughter, Deanna (Bernard) Lettington, Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren Brandon, Logan, Jenah and Natalie, and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation Monday 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral Tuesday 10:00am all at funeral home. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center.

Steven Petersen, age 59 of O’Neill, NE, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services at this time. On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, Jim passed peacefully in his sleep. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Frances Johnsen; brother, Fred Johnsen; and son, Jonathan Johnsen. Jim is survived by son, Mike Johnsen; daughter, Sherry Zeleny (nee Johnsen); son, Ric Johnsen; son, Jim Johnsen, Jr. (Laurie); grand son, Keith Ferris (Amber); grand daughter, Andrea Swett (Brian); granddaughter, Katrina Johnsen; granddaughter, Ali Wright (nee Zeleny); and 11 adored great grandchildren.
Jim was best known for his unconditional love for his family and his passion for softball and baseball. He truly was his grand children and great-grandchildren’s biggest fan and never passed up an opportunity to let them know how proud he was of all of them. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a distinct ability to tell stories. Words cannot express the impact Jim had on so many lives. To say he will be missed does not begin to explain the immeasurable impact his passing has had on us. We do, how ever, find comfort in knowing that he is fully healed and wrapped in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Gene Beilenberg notified us of the passing of Ronald E. Eggeling. Neither Gene or I have records for Ron. We are checking with Avaya Chapter President Vern Larson to see if he has any records of Ron. Ronald E. Eggeling, age 74, of Lincoln, formerly of Omaha, passed away Monday, May 9, 2022, at Journey Hospice House.
Ron was born on April 14, 1948, to Alvin C. and Florence Eggeling, in Stratton, NE. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1966. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy. Ron served from 1967 to 1971, during his time in the service he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida, Keflavik, Iceland and the Philippines. During the Vietnam War he was in Combat Support Code Breakers. Following Ron’s active-duty service, he served in the reserves CTR from 1971 to 1973, then again from 1975-1981. After Ron’s service to our country, he attended college at Bellevue University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Technical Services in 1994.
Ron’s worked for several different companies in his career. He worked as a senior Technician in customer service. Ron retired from Avaya after 36 years, in 2017. He enjoyed time spent with his family and especially loved attending reunions with his Navy buddies. He was a lifetime member of the CWA (Communication Workers of America).
Ron is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Diane, sons Kevin Michael Eggeling, Daniel Conrad (Marella) Eggeling of Scottsdale, AZ, Jeffrey Gene Eggeling of Lincoln, brothers Paul (Paula) Eggeling of Leesburg, Florida, Richard (Rita) Eggeling of Ozark, Missouri, Larry Eggeling of Iowa, Rod (Becky) Eggeling of Iowa, sister Sonja (Stan) Hliva of Danbury, Connecticut, 2 grandchildren, and his beloved dog Ace.

Larry P. Schlautman, age 77, passed away May 5, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side./
Larry was born on April 1, 1945 in West Point, Nebraska to Victor and Irene (Rolf) Schlautman. He graduated from St. Francis High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Larry proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and worked as a tradesman retiring from Avaya. He was united in marriage to wife, Mona, on April 10, 1999. Larry was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and former member of Queen of Apostles Church and Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Victor (2017) and Irene (2021); mother and father in-law, Mary Clark (2015) and Donald Clark (2017); son, Jeremy Drake.
Survivors include wife, Mona; daughter, Melodie (Joe) Pedevillano, Papillion, NE; son, Doug (Deanna) Schlautman, Papillion, NE; daughter, Suzanne (Scott) Riley; sons, Damian and James Drake all of Omaha; 5 grandchildren, Alexis, Courtney, Mika, Joshua and Samyrah; 3 great-grandchildren, Judd, Finley and Ivy; sisters, Lois O’Gara, Bonnie (Ron) Helms; brothers, Jim (Marsha) Schlautman, John (Teresa) Schlautman, Don (Candee) Schlautman; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Darrel Sudduth and Dick Scott notified us of the passing of Paul Quandahl. Paul retired from the Omaha Works on 7/23/1992 from AT&T with 34 years of service. It was mentioned by a friend that Paul worked in material management for the company.

Paul Marquis Quandahl was born on February 10, 1936 to Truman and Pauline Quandahl in Des Moines, Iowa.
As a teenager, he worked as a caddy at a Des Moines golf course and went to Des Moines Technical High School. He initially wanted to be a pilot, but was dissuaded from that career path by his father. He joined the Iowa National Guard and later the US Army Reserves. He enrolled at Grand View College and received his bachelor’s degree in business from Drake University.
He married on December 28, 1957 to Barbara Currie.
He was very frugal all of his life and really enjoyed used vehicles. He only owned one motorcycle in his life that he bought from a high school buddy: an un-muffled 1945 WWII surplus Indian Scout that his father encouraged him to dispose of quite quickly after the purchase. Paul bought and sold used cars to supplement income from Western Electric. He was agnostic as to make and model, owning Fords, Chevys, Buicks, Dodge, Jeeps, GM’s, AMC’s, Hondas, Lexus, Impalas, Nova’s, Mustangs, Pintos, Vegas, LTDs, Buicks, Pickups, Station Wagons, (including a 1962 Studebaker Lark.) Because it was inexpensive (and unreliable) Paul regarded a yellow Pontiac Fiero as the sportiest and coolest car he ever owned.
He was particularly proud of the Cape Cod style house in Ralston at 79th and Oakwood that he purchased at a foreclosure auction for $14,000 in 1963. He groused annually about the house’s reassessed value and property tax.
Paul retired early at age 56 in 1992 from Western Electric (a/k/a AT&T or Lucent) after 33 years of service, taking advantage of a middle management buy-out and severance package.
For over 20 years, he took an annual fishing trip to Canada with friends and he visited Alaska twice. He also floated down the Grand Canyon in a rubber raft. Until recently, he walked 5 miles a day on the hills of Ralston. He loved his family and annual family summer vacations, usually to YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado. He has requested that his ashes be scattered on Bible Point at the Rocky Mountain Y.
He also took numerous hunting adventures for mule deer, elk and moose in Wyoming. His passion for hunting and fishing was more pronounced than his success in catching big fish or shooting a big buck—he enjoyed his time with friends and family.
Paul never groaned or complained about his health or living conditions. He was always content, even when his health deteriorated and his Memory loss progressed in recent years. He had Type 2 Diabetes, elevated blood sugar and high blood pressure. He was diagnosed with Pancreatitis, Diverticulitis and Dementia.
He was good with money and investing and he began a financial consolidation/simplification around 2018 when he realized memory loss was progressing. About that time, he would recite this prayer several times a day: “Start the day with prayer, gratitude in your heart and a good cup of coffee.” He was hospitalized in November of 2021 at which time he told those around him that he had “a wonderful wife and family,” and that “things are coming to a head.”
Although it was his desire to remain in his Ralston home, a decision was made to move to Meriwether Assisted Living in January of 2022. He began Endless Journey Hospice Care in early April. After a January day of spending the day in Meriwether memory care center: he remarked, “ Everything is working out great. I am really happy and really happy here.” He then described the big bowl of ice cream (4 scoops!) he ate and the afternoon bus ride past a herd of 40 deer. He did not like utilizing a walker for assistance, and frequently ditched it in the hallway or in his room.
His last day on April 22, 2022 was spent in typical Paul Quandahl fashion. He spent much of the days walking the halls at Meriwether and went on the afternoon bus ride. He ate dinner, stood up, then sat back down and passed.
True to his nature, Paul had prepaid and pre-planned his funeral and made arrangements to be buried at Omaha National Cemetery. Paul was at peace with his life and decisions.
Paul is preceded in death by his mother, Leona (Pauline) Quandahl; his father, Truman Quandahl.
Paul is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Quandahl; his sister, Teddy Chandler; his children, Connie (Mike) Norton, Carol Thompson, Mark (Stacey) Quandahl, John (Cathy) Quandahl, and Meredith (Rick) Koubsky; grandchildren, Nick (Tiffany) Norton, Amanda (Chris) Stine, Megan (Jeff) Spencer, Sarah (Chris) Nastal, Scott (Rachel) Quandahl, RJ Quandahl, Kate (Mitchell) Faltin, Allison Quandahl, Caroline Quandahl, Dave Koubsky, and Jeff Koubsky, and many great-grandchildren.

Roger B. Carstens, 74, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born August 26, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska to Willis and Mildred (Jergens) Carstens.
Roger grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and later went to work for Western Electric. It was during his time at Western Electric that he met the love of his life, Judy Carstens. The two were married on April 18, 1970 at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They eventually made their home in rural Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Throughout the years, Roger and Judy enjoyed entertaining at their home, traveling, camping, and simply spending time together. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, boating, caring for their dog Reggie, and spending time with family, especially their grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was truly the glue that held the family together, and every year he would happily plan the family reunions. Roger was an active member in the Blue Bird Club.
Roger is survived his daughter Gina (Adam Chambers) Bennett of Glenwood, IA, sons Steve Martin of Omaha, NE, Roger Carstens, JR. of Florida, grandchildren, Brittney (Stephen) McCarthy, Brandi (Alex Geisler) Bennett, Joey, Amber, Christopher Martin, Felicia Martin, Victoria, John, and Alicia Carstens, Isabelle and Elizabeth Carstens, great grandchildren, Stephen and Rory McCarthy, sister Deloris Wiese of Omaha, NE, brother Donnie (Bernice) Carstens, of Lincoln, NE, Roger and Judy’s dog Reggie, and former son-in-law, Steve “Okie” Bennett. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Judith “Judy” J. Carstens, 76, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska. She was born on November 26, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska to John and Hilda Zych.
Judy grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and later went to work for Western Electric. It was during her time at Western Electric that she met the love of her life, Roger Carstens. The two were married on April 18, 1970 at Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They eventually made their home in rural Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Throughout the years, Judy and Roger enjoyed entertaining at their home, traveling, scuba diving, camping, and simply just spending time together. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, caring for their dog, Reggie, and time with family. She was active with several bird organizations throughout the years.
Judy is survived by her husband Roger of Plattsmouth, NE; her daughter Gina (Adam Chambers) Bennett of Glenwood, IA; sons Steve Martin of Omaha, NE and Roger Carstens, Jr. of Florida; former son-in-law Steve “Okie” Bennett; her grandchildren Brittney (Stephen) McCarthy and Brandi (Alex Geisler) Bennett, Joey, Amber and Christopher Martin, Felicia Martin, Victoria, John and Alicia Carstens, Isabelle and Elizabeth Carstens; great grandsons Stephen and Rory McCarthy, sister Janet Baker of Omaha, NE and brother Jim Zych of Omaha, NE. Mel was a long-time employee of Western Electric, where he retired from. He also worked for nearly 30 years at Ralston Keno – he liked playing Keno too! He was a professional clown, known as ‘Trac the Clown,’ was a member of the World Clown Association and won multiple awards in clown competition. Mel cheered for the Minnesota Vikings and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He loved coffee, John Deere tractors, watching golf, John Wayne movies and more recently, the Hallmark channel (but don’t tell anyone!).

John R. Winchester, age 84, of Council Bluffs, passed away March 29, 2022 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.
John was born August 12, 1937 in Council Bluffs to the late James A. and Berniece (Frost) Winchester. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1955. John married Marcia L. Cole on July 31, 1956. They were blessed with three children, Mike, Terese and Matt. John worked for Western Electric from 1960-1999 as a tool and die maker. He was a member of New Horizon Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Colby and brother, James L. “Hammer” Winchester.

Emily “Skip”Vencil, age 79 of Apple Valley, Minnesota, went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2022. Survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Jack; daughters, Vicky (Doug) Franz and Jackie (Mike) Pryor; five grandchildren, Rachel (Derek) Zhi, Karly, Matt (fiancée Haley), John (Michelle), and Kate.
Skip, “Skipper” as her family called her, loved the Lord and her life was one that displayed the fruit of a life devoted to Jesus Christ. She was a very thoughtful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. We will miss her so very much.

Mary Esther Wozny was born to Gilbert and Amada Guerra in Kansas City Missouri, on February 25, 1939. She was a student of Redemptorist Grade School and graduated from the Redemptorist High School of Kansas City in 1956. In 1967, she moved to Omaha where she raised her children. She was an employee of Western Electric for 25 years and proud member of the IBEW Local 1974. She married Richard Wozny in 1986 and they were together until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents of beloved memory, Gilbert and Amada Guerra, and her brother, Gilbert Jr. Mary Esther is survived by her children: Mary Fahey Krutzsch (Eric) of Tucson Arizona, Rev. John P. Fahey C.Ss.R. of Chicago Illinois, and Joseph Michael Fahey of Omaha; her stepchildren: Mike Wozny (Judy) of Omaha, Gina Machado (Robert) of Golden, Colorado, and Jennifer Morrison (Dan) of Overland Park, Kansas; her sisters: Irene Valenzuela (Alfonso), Gracie Collins, Patricia Zaner (Jim), Raechel Heisey (Ray), Becky Picard (Craig) all of Kansas City, and Gloria Delgado of Omaha; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was loved and adored by all her family.
Late in life Mary Esther was diagnosed with ALS and spent her final year at Hillcrest Cottages Nursing Care Facility. Mary Esther loved her husband Richard dearly. She worked hard to be a good mother and sister. She loved nothing more than being with her family. That was the love that gathered her husband, children, and sister to her bedside at the moment of her peaceful death.

Jim was born in Jersey City, NJ to William and Laura (Brady) Woods, the second of 4 sons, and grew up in Hoboken, NJ. He served in the Army for two years and upon his return to Hoboken he met his future wife, Doris. They were married February 21, 1959 and had five children together. He started working for Western Electric a few days before he turned 17 years old. In his 36-year career with W.E., he worked his way up from messenger boy to Department Chief. He also attended college while working and graduated from Rutgers University with a Business Degree. He relocated with W.E. from New Jersey to North Carolina and then to Nebraska where he finished his career. Jim retired at the age of 53. One of the highlights of his long career was getting to work on the Mercury Project with NASA for which he received special recognition from the President of the United States. Another highlight was volunteering with the Telephone Pioneers of America with his wife, Doris. He put in many volunteer hours, including as Chapter President, helping the community.
Jim loved the Henry Doorly Zoo and volunteered his time for over 40 years to their annual membership drive. Whenever visitors came to town, the first place he would take them was the zoo.
One of Jim’s greatest loves was philately. Jim started collecting stamps when he was young. He enjoyed buying and selling stamps and sharing his hobby with others. He turned his love into a small business, Woodson Stamps, and after his retirement spent many hours with his stamps and postcards, traveling all over the country to stamp shows.
Jim enjoyed sports, both watching and playing. He started bowling when he was in the Army and kept it up for many years, bowling in both the Church league, with his wife, and the Western Electric league. Jim was also a pitcher on the Church softball team for several years.
Playing cards was another hobby of Jim’s and he taught most of his 10 grandsons how to play poker. He enjoyed his many trips to Las Vegas, especially his annual trip with his grandsons and son-in-law for March Madness. Video poker was his favorite game.
He was a member of Saint Robert Bellarmine Church for almost 50 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Laura Woods; his three brothers: William, Dennis and Richard Woods; and his grandson, Daniel Boe.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris (Mann) Woods; children, Donna Boe, Jim Woods, Jr., Patty (Steve) Powell, Betsy (Ben) Belmont, and Pete (Angie) Woods; niece, Sally Banghart; grandchildren, Matt Boe, Bryce (Julie) Boe, Ty Powell, Michael Belmont (Lisa Ally), David (Jackie) Belmont, Reece Powell, Dylan Powell, Danica (Jordan) Williams, Connor Woods, and Federico Woods; great-nieces, Lauren (Doug Johansen) Banghart, and Megan Banghart; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Joe, Bradly, Daniel, Caroline, Parker, and Rue; sisters-in-law, Terry Woods, Carol Woods; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

George Thomas Elafros, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2022, at the age of 96. George was an amazing man who lived a long and full life.
George was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 9,1925 and grew up in a family that had a lot of love, but little money. His father, Efthymi, immigrated to Minneapolis from Greece where he met and married Anna Rust. George was the oldest of 3 children. Efthymi supported his family with many jobs and businesses over the years. The most memorable were working in a bakery and owning a hot dog stand on the streets of Chicago. George spoke fondly of his father bringing home cakes and pies every day from the bakery for breakfast the next day. Both of his parents were very devoted to the family. George inherited his love of cooking and good food from his father. His mother, Anna, was very religious and instilled a strong faith in George. Following his mother’s guidance, George was a devoted Christian throughout his life. As a father, it was important to him that his family attend church and he taught Sunday school for many years.
George was an excellent student and was chosen to attended Crane Tech High School in Chicago, putting him on track to attend Indiana Tech University to study engineering. After graduation, George began to work at Western Electric in Chicago and transferred to Omaha, Nebraska in 1959. His entire career was spent with Western Electric.
At age 18, George was drafted into the Army and was a radio operator in the 594th Joint Assault Signal Company. The service had a profound impact on George as he was exposed to people of many different backgrounds and his service experience provided a basis for his success in life. He was close to several of the men in his unit and kept in touch them for many years.
George was a gifted athlete in his day and especially enjoyed basketball and baseball. He was a recognized basketball star on his college team. His interest in sports and his “exercise program” continued into his 90’s, giving him good health and high energy throughout his life.
In 1953, George married his first wife, Donna Bashleben, in Chicago. They were married for 30 years and raised 4 children (Debbie, Tom, Jim and Bryan) together. George was devoted to the family and enjoyed coaching youth sports teams and loved planning annual family vacations.
In 1985, George married his second wife, Ann Wilbur. They traveled a lot, became “Winter Texans” and were married until Ann’s death in 1994. George stayed in touch with her daughters (Glory, Terri, Sue) until he died.
In 1996, George married his third wife, Deona Mathis after meeting as “Winter Texans” in San Benito, Tx. They moved to Houston, traveled, danced and enjoyed 25 years together until her death in 2020. George was close to her sons (Bruce, David) until he died.
George had many interests including traveling, dancing and gardening. He really enjoyed carefully designing the gardens and caring for the yards at all his homes. He loved to dance and enjoyed square dancing and round dancing with his wives. One of his favorite recent memories was dancing with everyone at his granddaughter’s wedding in 2016.
By far, the greatest interest he had was in music. He played the violin as a child, but switched to the mandolin and ukulele later in life. His children also have strong memories of him playing “Never on Sunday” on the organ in their living room. George played in a ukulele band while he lived in Country Place, Tx, and was thrilled to become a part of “Bob Stiffler and Friends” after moving to University Place Retirement Community in Houston. During the last few weeks of his life, he continued to look forward to returning and playing with them again. He even played his mandolin during his final days in the hospital.
George was a people person who always looked at the bright side of life despite any obstacles he might face. He showed his love and devotion to his family by creating personal cards on his computer for every special occasion. George was a lifelong learner who grew with the times. He kept up with what was going on in the world, he did not pass judgment and was always open minded. When he was young, George thought the mark of success would be owning a Cadillac. When he could finally afford it, he realized he no longer wanted it. George truly believed and lived the old saying that life is a journey not a destination. His life was an example of a life well lived.
George will be loved, cherished and greatly missed by his daughter Debbie, sons Tom (Karen), Jim and Bryan; his grandchildren Cameron Elafros, Alexis Elafros, Sarah (Nick) Drescher, Michael (Ashley) Elafros, Jessica Elafros, Mackenzie Elafros, Matthew Elafros, David Elafros, and Jeff Elafros; and his great-grandchildren Jordan and Cooper Drescher, and Jameson and Mila Elafros.

Lawrence “Larry” A. Tietz, Jr. was born on April 4,1941 to Lawrence and Marion (Tuttle) Tietz in Omaha, NE. He passed unexpectedly from complications of a stroke on March 4,2022.
Larry grew up on a farm outside of the little unincorporated town of Nashville, NE. He received his education in Fort Calhoun, graduating from High School in 1959. He married Donna Stricklett on July 2, 1960. Three children were born to this union. Larry worked for many years at Connectivity Solutions (Formerly Western Electric). He retired in 2006 after 46 years of service to the company. His true passion was farming and he enjoyed working with his father, grandfather and brother on the Tietz farm. He never retired from farming, always loving the land.
Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and caring for the birds and squirrels that visited their home. He possessed the gift of gab and would talk to anyone about anything.
He is survived by his wife Donna; children: Becky (Don) Young, Suzanne (Chip) Carr, Brad (Leigh Ann) Tietz; brother Richard (Nancy) Tietz; seven grandchildren: Erin Tietz, Ryan (Courtney) Tietz, Adam (Christina) Tietz, Eric (Carlos) Tietz, Kevin (Kayla) Paulsen, Branden Carr, Justin Carr; two great grandchildren: Colton Jameson Tietz and Walker Lawrence Tietz; many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 12 to 4pm, with a 1pm prayer service at the Tietz Barn – 4486 County Rd P40, Omaha NE 68152.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying trapshooting, fishing and hunting.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Walter; his mother, Elizabeth; his brother Elmer; his brother Donald and his sister Mary Elizabeth.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 68 years Charlotte and 6 sons- Timothy (Rachel), Kevin (Wendy), David (Leann Solene), Michael (Samantha), Joel and Patrick (Jody); there are nine grandchildren- Christopher (Michelle), Levi (Emily), Jessie, Sean, Shana, Allison, Brandi, Grant and Blake (Makenzie); Jim also leaves behind 9 great grandchildren- Charlotte, Theodore, Finnegan, Kellan, Darby, Chloe, Brooklynne, Bevin and Eli.

Dean Irwin Davis passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the age of 82. He was born in his family home on January 18, 1940, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. This is where he fostered a very early fascination with electronics, mechanics and tinkering of all manners. After graduating from Plattsmouth High School in 1958 he moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he met the love of his life, Sandra Chizek. They married at St. Bridget Catholic Church in May of 1960. In 1961 Dean and Sandy started the family that surrounds him today.
Dean began a life of fulfilling work at Western Electric in 1958 as a tool and dye apprentice. He loved the way work at the plant challenged both his skills and his interests, channeling his expertise into a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from the University of Nebraska. Dean also attained additional post-graduate education in Computer Science at Brigham Young University all while he focused on balancing work and nourishing the home and the family he adored above all else. He worked his way up to Engineering Associate, and then eventually a full-blooded Mechanical Engineer. Work as an engineer afforded him many worldly accomplishments and experiences which he cherished throughout his life. These included travels to all corners of the globe setting up communication and data systems. Dean’s work led him to the conception of several patents in the 1980’s and 90’s. He ultimately spent 42 years at the plant in Omaha, beginning with Western Electric, in all its iterations and successors, up to Lucent Technologies: Bell Labs Innovations, retiring in 2000.
In his free time Dean enjoyed computing, computer science, fishing, and carpentry. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it.” Dean was a gearhead and a car enthusiast; he loved all things Nebraska and furthermore the Huskers. He was awarded an Admiralty in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. Dean was very active in volunteer work, he served as Vice President and President of the Willa Cather Elementary Parent Teacher Association, was a founding member and avid volunteer in the Kingswood Athletic Association, Cub Scout Leader, a serving officer and awarded member of the Pacific Heights Neighborhood Association.
More than anything, however, Dean held dearest his time with his family, especially in supporting his children and grandchildren in any and all endeavors. One of his favorite expressions was “All because two people fell in love”.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kelly E. Davis; parents, Walter C. Davis and Irene M. (Heflin) Davis; eight siblings. Dean is survived by wife, Sandra (Chizek) Davis; son, Kent Davis (Robin Waddington); daughters: Tracy Tobaben (Shayne), Deana Wood (Mike), Andrea Beargeon (Todd); grandchildren: Alexa, Beau and Hope Davis; Brandon, Alexandra and Grant Tobaben; Dean (Kristine Assman) and Hunter Wood; Tayler, Christopher (Maeve Vetter), Kassandra Beargeon; siblings, Kay Bernardy and Evelyn Eichron; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
All who knew Dean will miss his ability to help with any challenge whether it is physical or perceptual, his valuable insight, unconditional love, support, and guidance in our lives.

Jim Phillips, of Omaha, passed away having suffered complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Gerri; and his sister, Noreen Otto of Menasha, WI. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Phillips, Cindy (Merv) Schmidt, Jill (Tim) Wood; grandson, Jason Flatowicz; and eight other grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; niece, Sharon (Rich) Secor; other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jim was born and raised in Kaukauna, WI and following high school, proudly served in the USAF. While he was stationed at Offutt AFB, he met Gerri and they married in 1954. Following his military service he worked as a highly skilled tool and die maker at Western Electric until his retirement at 58 years old. Jim enjoyed 30 years of retirement and had many hobbies and interests, greatest of all were his Green Bay Packers, motorcycle trips, and building and flying RC aircraft with the OmaHawks. He also flew in many aviation festivals with Byron Originals throughout the Midwest.

Lois Jean Brittell 90 years of Omaha, NE died Monday, February 14, 2022 in her home, Papillion Manor, Papillion, NE. Lois was born February 17, 1931 in Clearwater, NE, the daughter of Harold and Lucille (Hughes) Luben.
Lois was a storyteller, having more stories than an Aesop’s Fables could muster. She loved to talk about her and Dewey’s cowboy/cowgirl adventures and all the trail rides and horse shows he participated in. Lois loved flower gardening around her home. Lois graduated high school and attended Wayne State College, where she practiced the art of archery and received her “Normal Teaching Certificate” in 1951, followed by teaching grade school children in a 1-room rural school near her home town. Lois loved children and had a heart the size of Texas for reading and teaching. While teaching, she met the cowboy that roped her heart for the balance of her life.
Lois and Dewey Brittell were married October 29, 1954, only to part when the Lord took Dewey home to be with Him on April 29, 2014. During their life together they had one son, Larry James Brittell. After marrying Dewey and moving to Omaha, they joined Harvey Oaks Baptist Church. Lois was an active member, attending, teaching Sunday School and attending many Bible Studies until the time came where she was not able to attend due to health issues. Lois began working at the Western Electric aka AT&T, where she worked in the “High Bay” area for approximately 30 years prior to her retirement around 1994. That’s when she and Dewey were finally able to enjoy country music festivals and weekends at the Red Barn with friends.
Lois was always busy volunteering wherever someone would give her a kettle and bell, like the Pioneers Organization did at Christmas for the Salvation Army. Lois also was a Supervisor for the Election Board at the voting booths and helped (wo)man the American Red Cross blood drives. Additionally, Lois would go to the grade schools in Omaha as well as the Douglas County jail and do her best making children and adults alike laugh, while teaching them the harmful nature of nicotine and smoking. As a resident in Papillion Manor, Lois loved to play BINGO, accumulating little gifts and enough “play” money to buy a “play” house it seemed! Everyone loved Lois for her smile, her crazy stories and her jokes. She was known by many and loved by all who knew her.
Survivors include: son – Larry (Peggy) Brittell; grandsons – Larry (Shadawn) Brittell; Charlie Brittell; Tommy Brittell; great-grandchildren – Larry, Etta, Lexi, Colin Petersen Holsti; Jaiden Swoboda-Ford; Keyla, Keyden, Keysha, Keylend Brittell; many other great-grands, nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and husband Dewey.
Funeral Service will be held at Braman Mortuary, 6505 S. 144th St. Omaha, NE, on Thursday February 17, 2022, 10:30 a.m., with visitation preceding at 9:30 a.m. Lois will be cremated, with internment at a date yet to be determined at the Omaha National Cemetery.

This morning while searching for another obituary I found the passing of Virgil Jacob Jochimsen. Virgil was department manager that left the Omaha Works to go into sales. Thomas Paul Lichliter, 84, died February 10, 2022, at his home with family by his side in Omaha, Nebraska. At his request, a private services will be held.
Thomas Lichliter was born on July 5, 1937, in Bancroft, Iowa to Frank and Loretta Lichliter. He served in the United States Airforce from 1957-1964. He survived by wife, Marlene, children, Ann Lichliter (Robert “Jay” Palmer) and James Lichliter and two grandchildren.
He worked at Western Electric for 32 years. His passions were fishing and military aircraft restoration. After retirement, he volunteered at Strategic Airforce museum for 20 years.

Omaha – Linda Margaret (Anderson) Vlcek was born in Monroe, Michigan on July 24, 1939, at Mercy hospital. She was the second child of seven children born to Claud D. Anderson and Margaret Ann (Bairley) Anderson.
Her early years of her childhood she lived in jail. Her grandpa Bairley was the sheriff of Monroe County and they lived with them for a while (their residence was connected to the jail). Then they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where Linda attended Our Lady of Lords catholic school through the sixth grade. Afterwards, the family settled in Omaha, Nebraska. In Omaha, Linda started Cathedral elementary in the seventh grade and then graduated from Cathedral high school in the class of 1957.
After high school she was a secretary in a law office for a year. She didn’t like the job, but she promised a nun from Cathedral, who got her the job, that she would stay for one year. After a year she quit and went to work for Western Electric.
Western Electric was a good place for her. She enjoyed the people and loved being around them. Linda made many friends and lifelong friendships there. Linda just made people happy and feel special around her. All total, Linda worked at Western Electric aka AT&T aka Lucent for around 30 years. During that time, she met Dennis, married, had two children, Joe and Claudia, and took an eight-year break in employment to stay home with them.
Linda had many things in life she enjoyed which included: Broadway plays, dancing, singing (she and her sisters were always singing), and movies, especially musicals. She also enjoyed travel. She loved her bus trips with her sisters and never forgot a pilgrimage she made with her mother and sister Claudia. When it came to travel, she and Dennis completed a bucket list quest of getting to all 50 states. It took them awhile, but they made it. Speaking of 50, she and Dennis celebrated their golden wedding anniversary May 8, 2021.
Her most enjoyment came when her family grew. Claudia married Andy Holmes and Joe married Jennifer Lund. Then as an extra bonus, Joe and Jennifer went to China to adopt a 2 ½ year old boy. They named him Nicholas Kai Vlcek. He is 6 years old now and just stole Linda’s heart and love.
Linda truly loved God all her life and prayed to Him every day. We know she is with Him now and is very happy in Heaven. Linda, we will miss you very much, but you are forever in our hearts. Linda, pray for us, and please put in a good word for us with the Lord. Thank you for the time we got to spend with you.

Pam worked as a nurse in the medical department at the Omaha Works for an outside contractor and and was laid off on March 4, 2003 with 25 years of service. One of her major job duties in the medical department was coorinating reports with the safety department. Paul Richard “Dick” Jenkins was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 25, 1931, at Clarkson Hospital. The first seven years of his life were spent moving around the United States as his dad was in the US Army Air Corps. During those seven years, he lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, Kansas, Alabama, and Nebraska. We have assumed these frequent moves during his early childhood years helped shape him into the down to earth person we all knew him to be.
Following Dick’s parents’ divorce when he was 7, he moved back to Omaha with his mom and brother to live with his grandma. His grandma Mammy ran a rooming and boarding house near what is the Blackstone District today. He attended Columbia Grade School from 2nd to 8th grade and it was during these years that his love for music began. Dick mastered the clarinet by 5th grade and the saxophone by middle school. During his middle school years Dick also began working after school at Stern Grocery and Kosher Brothers Grocery store as a delivery and stock boy. (He would have thrived in today’s Aisles Online and online order pick up environment.) Dick attended Tech High School and played clarinet and saxophone in the Senior Marching Band, Senior Concert Band, Senior Orchestra and Dance Band. He also played with various local bands throughout high school before graduating in 1949.
Dick attended the University of Nebraska Omaha, continued to play in local bands and graduated with a degree in music. His love of working on cars also developed during his college years. He learned to overhaul engines, repair transmissions, brakes and rear ends and rebuild starters, generators, and carburetors. Dick would buy cars that needed work, fix them up, drive them for a while and then hopefully sell them for a profit. He was a flipper before flipping was a thing!
After college, Dick was drafted into the Army and attended basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, where his rank was Private First Class. Following basic training, he was transferred to Fort Hood, Texas and served with a rank of Corporal in the 1st Armored Division Band. Dick was never one to brag, but this honor meant a lot to him. Fun fact: Instead of marching in parades, the Army band rode in 16 jeeps in a four-by-four formation with three musicians and one driver in each jeep. After his release from active military service, he was transferred to the Army Reserves in Omaha for 8 years under the Universal Military Training and Service Act.
Back in Omaha, Dick continued to play in local bands and worked at the Patton Music Company as a sales clerk. In the early 1950’s, he started playing with the Paul Moorhead Band at the Paxton Hotel in downtown Omaha. Dick played 6 nights a week, sometimes traveling to rural ballrooms and venues throughout the Midwest. He often mentioned these were some of the best days of his life. The schedule and travel must not have bothered him too much because during this time he also commuted to and from Lincoln to take graduate electrical engineering classes.
In 1959, Dick started his career at Western Electric Company in their Purchasing Department. His career at Western Electric spanned 34+ years and thrived despite several corporate mergers. You don’t hear stories like that very often anymore. After his retirement in 1994, AT&T missed his knowledge and expertise and hired him back as a consultant for a handful of years.
This May would have been Dick and Nadine’s 53rd wedding anniversary. (It really can work out when you marry your secretary!) Dick and Nadine had two children, Greg and Kristin, and created a wonderful life for their kids. Annual trips to Worlds and Oceans of Fun, skiing in Colorado and multi-family camping trips were staples in those early family years. And even though Dick knew how to fly a plane (he learned to fly a single engine light airplane, an Aeronca Champ, which he bought in partnership with a friend), he drove his family everywhere. Memorable family road trips included Washington, DC, Pensacola and Orlando, Florida and Duluth, Minnesota. Dick and Nadine also enjoyed traveling with friends and neighbors on several fantastic cruises (Dick’s favorite was the Panama Canal … he loved the engineering of the locks), domestic destinations and a European adventure (translation: a guided tour). But if we had to wager a guess, we’d say Dick’s once-in-a-lifetime trip was when he and Nadine traveled via a private train car from Omaha to California and then south along the California coast. Dick’s love of trains rivaled that of music and cars. His HO Gauge Model trains collection was impressive, and his railroad layout was a mainstay in the basement.
There wasn’t a home improvement project, big or small, Dick couldn’t tackle. He was Mr. Do-It-Yourself before anyone had heard the term DIY. Dick insisted on completing all projects himself and was a perfectionist. He had every spare part one could possibly need in his “inventory” in the basement. (Trust us on this one, he didn’t get rid of anything.) Dick also loved to tinker. Christmas lights, electrical switches and outlets … you name it, if it was broken, he was bound and determined to fix it. His obsession with keeping all the bulbs working on a $3 Christmas light strand was unmatched. Lastly, and most importantly, Dick always enjoyed and looked forward to his time with his four grandsons: Gavin, Carter, Jack and Max.
We will miss his physical presence in our lives but know he is with us always. What a blessing to have had him for 90 healthy, wonderful years.

Frank John Berrent Jr. was born on February 21, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, the youngest of five to Frank and Katherine. He graduated from Patterson H.S. and received his B.S. from The University of Maryland. An army veteran, he served from 1950 to 1953. He started his career at Western Electric. He married Rita Bajkowski and had three daughters. Always very active with family and hobbies, he enjoyed having a large vegetable garden, ping pong, boating, crabbing, and Colts games.
In 1983, he moved to Omaha with Rita and daughter, Ann to continue his career with A.T. & T. Still very active, enjoyed playing cards, golf, church events, and became a dedicated usher at his parish, Saint Wenceslaus. Upon retirement, he traveled, having winter getaways in South Padre Island, spending time with family and grandchildren in the Ozarks at the Crouse lakehouse, taking cruises with Rita, and playing golf with Rita and friends as a long time member of Ashland Golf Club. Frank was a friendly, easy-going manager to his staff and displaying a great work ethic. He was a loving, dedicated husband to Rita and a helpful, caring father.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rita; three daughters: Catherine Naused (Mike), Nancy League (Al) and Ann Crouse (Jerry); four grandchildren: Natalie Naused, Zachary Crouse, Alyssa Crouse-Bankes, and Kade Crouse; many nieces and nephews.

Lowell (Dan) Dankof died on January 10, 2022 at the age of 86 yr, 6 mo and 6 days. He was born July 4′ on his G’pa Miller’s farm in Atchison County, MO.
He attended high school in Hamburg, LA and was a 1957 graduate of Iowa State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He earned his Master of Engineering Science Degree from Clarkson University (1971) in Potsdam, NY. He served in the U. S. Army and Reserves for 8 years until discharged in 1965. Dan worked for Western Electric for 33 years from 1957 to year’s end 1989, and retired as a Senior Engineer. He was a registered Professional Engineer in Nebraska.
Dan was an avid sports fan and grew up participating in all sports in high school. Baseball was his favorite at College and Semi-Pro level. Golf became a passion in later years. He was also a skilled deer hunter bow & arrow) and fisherman with many bragging rights trophies.
After college, Dan met the love of his life, Dottie (Dorothy Johnson), in Omaha, while Dottie was his dancing instructor. They were married March 14, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Omaha. While raising a close family of three children, they enjoyed ballroom dancing and met many dear friends through that activity. They were active members of the German American Society for over 40 years and also active members of Lutheran Church of The Master for many years. Dan participated in his beloved Stephen Ministry for 16 years as a caregiver and leader with a passion for helping those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Wilma Dankof, an infant sister, Joyce, and a sister Lois (Lloyd) Sebek of Hamburg, IA. He is survived by his loving and cherished wife of almost 63 years, Dottie, brothers Duane (Diana) Dankof of Nebraska City, NE, and Dale Dankof of Shenandoah, IA. He is also survived by his children Lisa (Dean) Cornett of Papillion, NE, Angela (Steve) Bellus of Reading, England UK, Karl (Mary) Dankof of Elkhorn, NE, six grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and many friends. He will be missed.

Funeral services for E. John Sharples, age 88, of Gretna, Nebraska will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home in Tilden, Nebraska. Pastor James Sells will officiate, with burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Tilden.
Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7603, American Legion Post 170, and American Legion Riders.

John Sharples was born October 11, 1933, in Oakdale, Nebraska to Elmer and Amanda (Deckert) Sharples. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
John married Janet Hendrix in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 29, 1957. Together they had four sons. In 1988, John retired from Western Electric/AT&T after 36 years of employment. After his retirement, he continued to work at Omaha Auto Auction.
He enjoyed having daily morning coffee chats with his large group of Gretna friends at Phillips 66, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with family.
John was preceded in death by his son, Lyle Dean; parents, Elmer and Amanda; and siblings, Barbara and James.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet; three sons, Wayne (Kim) Sharples of Kimball, Nebraska, Bryan (Pearl) Sharples of Gretna, Nebraska, and Stanley Sharples of Roanoke, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Sara, Steven (Lourdes), Justin (Gracie), Jaclyn (Justin), Wyatt, Evelyn (Kenneth), and Henaspring; and twelve great-grandchildren, Ethan, Daniela, Troy, Gabriela, Kimberly, Courtney, Jayce, Brian, Kenzie, Jordan, Hayden, and Rowan.

Louise was born in Boone County, Nebraska on March 10, 1931 and passed away at her home on December 14, 2021. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Nissen; father, Joseph Majerus; mother, Hilda (Daniels) Majerus; her brother, Donald of Petersburg, Nebraska; and sister, Bernita of Omaha, Nebraska.
Louise is survived by her sister, Eleanor of Wisner, Nebraska; sons: Alan Nissen of Keokuk, Iowa, Dean Nissen (Liz) Omaha, and Brian Nissen (Debbie) of Omaha; daughters: Sherry Lenssen of Ontario, Canada, Vicki Nissen of Marshall, Missouri, Lori Nissen of Omaha, and Suzie Ramos (José) of Bellevue, Nebraska.

Louise had two great-great-grandchildren, Willadean and Caroline Grace.
Our mom was a wonderful person with a good heart and great sense of humor. She probably read all the books out there and even the back of cereal boxes if she had nothing else to read. She was an avid KC Royals fan, and she watched Jeopardy and Wheel of fortune religiously. We would have to say that she was one of the smartest people we knew. We all have learned so much from her—she would always pick up the phone when you were stumped on a trivia question.
We will miss you, mom and know that you take a piece of each of our hearts with you.
